The Book of Hebrews was written to encourage its readers to remain faithful to Jesus, as they faced the temptation to follow local Jewish teachings. While our situation is different today, there are many religions and worldviews that may confuse Christians and tempt them to embrace their teachings. In this mini-lesson, we will look at a brief summary of a few key world religions in order to understand them and compare them with Christianity.
Muhammad (570 - 632 A.D.) supposedly received revelations that were to become the Quran, making him the prophet of Islam. Their creed is, “There is no God but God (Allah), and Muhammad is the Prophet of God.” They reject the concept of the Trinity. But Allah is so distant from his creatures that man can’t really know much about him. He created both good and evil, and governs the whole creation moment by moment miraculously. In their view of predestination, man has no real freedom of choice, but only the illusion of it. Muslims consider Jesus to be just another prophet, and they believe that his followers deified him against his own will. When people die, they must face judgment by Allah, who will balance their good deeds with their bad ones to determine where they spend eternity.
